Platform Werkplaatsen

WPZimmer Antwerpen

Platform Werkplaatsen is a joint venture between Dutch and Flemish workshops and labs for artists and designers. Technical workshops lead the way in facilitating craft techniques for and by artists and designers. Workshops are consistently developing, reflecting the changes in daily art practice, thereby creating innovative applications of old and new techniques. Their function has also shifted, from knowledge centre to junction within knowledge networks. This has created unexpected connections between art, science, business and society. Platform Werkplaatsen makes this development visible and examines the position and significance of workshops by organizing symposia and meetings. Platform Werplaatsen is supported by AiR Platform NL, platform for artist in-residence programs in the Netherlands. Platform Werkplaatsen is committed to  Bringing visibility to the extensive range of technical facilities, knowledge and expertise in the Netherlands and Flanders.  Mutual cooperation and exchange of knowledge and experience.   Promoting the importance and significance of artistic workshops, in connection with art education, science, business, and social institutions. LINK platformwerkplaatsen LINK wpzimmer

Hackers and Designers

Summer Academy 2016:
At work.
If you are so smart why are you so poor?

During the summer of 2016 Hackers and Designers invites an international group of ambitious artist, designers and developers for a 10 day hands-on workshop program, including collective dinners, lectures, a film program and a concluding exhibition… H and D believes that in order to develop a deeper understanding of the qualities and disadvantages of technology we need to look inside the black boxes of the technology that we heavily rely on in our daily physical and digital, our private and professional lives. Therefore we urge the participants of the summer academy to open the box, look inside it, rummage through it or even make their own boxes… LINK read more

Learning Through Art

The Guggenheim Museum Collection
and collection dolf pauw

Brancusi, Chagall, Kandinsky, Leger, Lichtenstein, Malevich, Miro, Picasso, Ringgold, Rousseau, Severini, and Smith. This is the first children's book based on the collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Inspired by Learning Through Art/ The Guggenheim Museum Children’s Program, it provides a fun way to learn about art and uses works of art to explore basic elementary school subjects such as math, science, language arts and social studies. Full-color reproductions of twelve masterpieces from the Guggenheim's collection form the basis of sections that are filled with information, exploratory questions, writing and drawing activities, fun facts, and suggestions for additional projects to do at home. Handsomely designed by Takaaki Matsumoto, its pages are specially coated so that writings and drawings made with washable marker will wipe off, allowing each activity to be done again and again for years to come. Geared toward ages 6 - 10, this book offers a delightful way for parents and children to share art together. Learning Through Art/ The Guggenheim Museum Children’s Program (LTA) was founded in 1970 by the late Natalie Lieberman in response to the elimination of art and music programs in the New York City public schools. Serving thousands of students annually, LTA focuses on increasing the learning and communication skills of elementary school children through an innovative multidisciplinary approach, and offers activities that are designed to supplement the classroom curriculum and increase children’s exposure to the arts. LINK art book

Game Changers @ MOMU Antwerp

Photo’s by Dolf Pauw

The exhibition ‘Game Changers Reinventing the 20th century silhouette’  looks at the groundbreaking work of fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga whose innovations in the middle of the 20th century created a radically new silhouettte, in which the body got freedom of movement and architectural volumes created a space around the body. Along with the pioneers of haute couture in the 1920s and 1930s and later on also the designers of the 1980s and 1990s, Balenciaga provided an alternative for the prevailing constrictive hourglass silhouette. These ‘Game Changers’ looked at fashion of the 20th century from a new perspective. LINK MOMU
